Computer Artwork Guidelines

Vectorized artwork is preferred. A vector image is a graphic that is created by straight or curved lines. Areas of a vector image can be enlarged or reduced without losing resolution quality. Vectorized files would be:

CorelDraw, (.cdr) Version 11 or earlier
Adobe Illustrator, (.ai) Version 10 or earlier
Encapsulated PostScript (.eps)
Note: a bitmap saved in any of these programs is not vectorized.

Rastered images are not ideal: A raster image is a graphic that is created by combining a series of dots called pixels. These images cannot be manipulated for our purposes and usually need to be redrawn. This will often require a great deal more art time, thereby incurring a higher artwork charge. Rastered images would be found in:

JPEG format .JPG
Adobe Photoshop (.psd)
TIFF format (.tiff or .tif)
Bitmap format (.bmp)

Save your customer money by trying to get the best artwork possible.

When creating artwork, lines need to be thick enough and far enough apart in order to cast properly and should scale with the image. For example, a 2" medallion should have lines at least .020" thick and a 1" pin should have lines at least .007" thick. Thicknesses can vary with different die processes or metals. Our artists are available to modify artwork so that it will be appropriate for casting.
